Title: Rattling exactly between 3000 and 4000 RPM
Post by: poing on March 12, 2019, 01:21:00 PM
My 2015 model rattles 95% of the time between 3000 and 4000 RPM, when accelerating or decelerating. Can't hear it full throttle  :005: Maybe sometimes at higher RPM but not at all as pronouncing, very difficult to tell.

I know about the rattling, but in my case I very rarely have it on startup and below or above 3-4k RPM.

Any thoughts?

Is it valvetrain noise? I hear it too in my 2018. Has me concerned but I haven't really heard other S1000's to compare.

I had a very loud rattle from the upper fuel tank cover fairing piece.
Easy to diagnose (just apply some pressure from your finger when you hear it) and easy fix (2 small strips of foam where it was chafing on the tank).

You haven't described the sound or where it comes from, so just sharing my experience.

From My experience on Honda's, Cam chain tensioner will get stuck and cause a rattle noise between 3-5k RPM when you hit that rpm. maybe your S1KR is doing the same. what mileage is the bike and can you hear if its coming from the Engine? what you can do is use Screwdriver as stethoscope,  start the bike, put the handle against your ear and push the other end against the engine close to your cam chain tensioner, rev her up to the undesired rattle RPM's and listen for the rattle. you can move the Screwdriver around on the engine casing to different spots to hear if the noise gets louder or softer. that will help establish if you closer to the problem or not.

I had a vibration noise around that RPM from the fuel tank lock. While riding just lift the key flap and put your finger on top of the key hole to see if that's it. Solved my problem by putting some electrical tape on the underside of the key flap to lessen the gap, then a small rubber foot (like what you'd put on your door or cupboard jam to stop the doors from slamming shut).

I got it from my dash between 2600-3200rpm :(
