Title: Show off your S1000R
Post by: Flushman on May 31, 2014, 10:32:26 PM
Seen this on a few other forums I've been a member of. A thread dedicated to pics of your pride and joy. Always nice to scroll through photos of members bikes to get inspiration on which mods to do next. To kick things off here a pic of mine.

I removed the reflectors...does that count as a mod?

@Lux when you changed out your brake reservoir did you need to bleed the lines or anything special?  I've been looking at getting that tank because of the shitty one that BMW installed on the bike but haven't gotten around to looking at what's involved.

The problem with the gallery is its full of every kind of picture. I think its just nice to have a thread where you can scroll down and admire everyones bikes.

I've installed some of these Rizoma Aspherio mirrors and you can't see [censored - unaccepatble, you risk being banned!] ]-all in them either.

Chewza - I was going to follow Ozzy's recommendations in another part of the forum by simply pinching off the line and removing the OEM reservoir, etc., but I ended up waiting and letting the mechanic do it for me at the first service which was just completed a few days ago.
So I'm not going to be much help from personal experience.  :006:

They are different with the blue tint for knocking down night light and the end portions for wider view.
I do pick up slight vibration, but not nearly as bad as OEM.
I wouldn't say I can't see sh*t, but they are an improvement with adjustment.
They are different and growing on me.
And...the look is awesome.  :038:
I had CRG Arrow bar end mirrors on my Ducati. I thought they were worse...never could quite get comfortable with that view and the awkward feel on the bar.
Maybe another type? I dunno.
Personal thing, I guess.

Don't get me wrong...the mirrors are a work of art and offer a great view to the rear but in my case they vibrate worse than the stock mirrors. I am now on a quest to knock down the vibes at the source....the bars.

Followed OZ as thoughs. Different carbon and no belly pan but added the same rizoma mirrors and canister . Don't know if I will add much more than radiator and oil guards until my akropovic system comes in and gets installed. Will take some good pictures next weekend.

AR pipe looks great mate.. I've got the carbon version in the post due to arrive shortly..
Did it change the sound much at all?

AR end can doesn't really change the exhaust note much, perhaps a little deeper. Think it looks the nuts though.

Maybe some heavier bar ends to take some more of the vibration out?

Inspirikus got it right with that link.
It's an Ilmberger carbon fiber product.
Don't forget to order the mounting kit too.

I hope they remember to send the bolts hardware. I had to buy those after everything arrived since they forgot to ship those components.
I also used two different thicknesses of nylon washers.
I'm very happy with it. Quality is excellent and the people at Ilmberger were very helpful (so was Ozzy).

Finally finished wires for navigation and lighter jack...
Was using original wire routing...from BMW to make it nice and tidy...
Now have enough power for both navigation camera and phone...
Phone and camera will go in the lighter jack where navigation have its own jack that goes directly in navigation holder.

Only sh#t part was i needed to drill side panel for it...

Pictures for anyone interested to check out...

Ha!
Good eye, Low!
Those panels finally developed a peel where my legs gripped the bike.
I decided not to fight it, disassembled and stripped it all off for now.
I'm not sure what I'll do next. If I had huge stacks, I'd just buy the carbon, but maybe I want that Yoshi first.

I haven't seen too many videos, so I put this together today from a ride yesterday.
There was plenty of footage but I tried to keep it brief.
After awhile, the view from the GoPro on the helmet can get boring and the wind noise is unfortunate, but what the hell.
I'll work on that with an external mic one of these days.
Looks best at 720P on the bigger screen.
Here you go:

Looks great. Thanks Lux. Is that the dutch country out west of philly area? Noticed the horse drawn carriages.

I ride a lot north of there west and east of the Delaware in NJ and PA. Not sure exactly where pennsyltucky is. Is that the sport shield. Id does not look too intrusive and now I am considering one. Just don't want to lose the naked too much,

Thanks, baimo.
Yes.
This video was shot in the Lancaster County area north of Lititz, PA and west of Philly.
That is also the accessory tinted shield. It works for me, but I am just over 6 feet tall too.
I know others about 6'2" and taller get blasted.
I call it Pennsyltucky because some areas are like Kentucky, some are like Pennsylvania.  :034:

Shogun, you have a heel guard made of carbon fiber on your exhaust.  Where did you get that?  Did it come with or is it an OEM HP4 part?  I had a full Akrapovic on my RR, but no heel guard.  It would be nice to have one when I get my R later this month.

JonM, the exhaust and the carbon bits too it came with the bike. It's a Japan special seeing as how we can only get the Premium model here.

Good to know.  Looks like the BMW version does come with the guard.  For the RR at least, the aftermarket Akrapovic does not come with the guard, nor does the pipe have provisions for the mounting bolts either.

I love the way those mirror look. Just one question, what does the handle bars look like now where the mirrors use to mount?

I haven't taken them off yet so I'm not sure how exactly they mount. Are there "stubs" left from the oem mirrors?

No stubs - just a hole.  I used M10-1.5x16 button head bolts.

I so love that full exhaust over the one BMW supplies. Is the difference that this one needs an ECU like pc5 and retuning? And can u still use ilmbergers bellypan or is the heat an factor?

The USA Akrapovic distributor supplied a power commander with this and it is installed. Seems good. But it is a new exhaust system today. I cant answer you about the bellypan, but without the ugly CAT on the bottom I no longer desire a bellypan

Ofcourse it would have been even nicer if u could use the short slip-on but then it would have been too load (and unlegal in most countries). Now u "only" gain lovely sound, more power and less weight and imho good looks! I say it's a winner!

The shorty was an option and I originally ordered it, but I did not have patience for delivery dates that got pushed back a month or two a couple times. So I decided to put the long one on and am thrilled with it. Nice throaty sound. I kept the baffle out.

Very Nice baimo!  Bike looks sick!  Love the full Akra, I have that same exhaust on my ZX6R track bike.  I bet it sounds wicked on the S1000R!  Yup I agree, no need for the belly pan, show off that Titanium, especially when its starts to turn blue!!  :028:

SW-Motech. I bought them from Twisted Throttle in USA. They come in very handy at times. Does anyone know of a nice very small rear seat bag? Wunderlich advertises one that is a perfect size for me but it did not fit my bike properly. The underside of the seat is different from the RR.

Kilowong,

Noticed you've installed the Brembo 19RCS master cylinder. How has this affected the braking...initial bite, feel, pressure at the lever?

A few pics of some extras I fitted today. Rad covers as I really don't want a stone doing damage, and there are a lot of them on our roads recently. Some cheep levers from the far east, had on the RR and were great, so have gone for them again. And finally a couple of general pics  :001:

So after a bit of a delay the BMW S1000R Sport was available for collection last weekend.

I've fitted a tail tidy (new plate en-route) and a rad / oil cooler guard plus some front & rear spindle protectors all from Evotech but other than that the bike is as it came and I'm absolutely loving it.

I'm 250 miles in to the 600 initial running in period, but even with just 7,000 RPM to play with, it's still bloody quick.

I'll add crash protectors as soon as I get them from Evotech.

Yes - easy to fit.

The only wiring required is for the number plate light and the connectors are  provided.

I have the R&G tail tidy, but for that yes the indicators just needed unplugging and plugging in again. I assume the Evotech one is the same.   Only the number plate light needs the wire splicing and new connector fitting.

It's one of the easier bikes I've fitted a tail tidy to.

Thought I'd add some pics from Sweden as well, taken during a track day.
Nothing special done so far, added some eazi grip and modified the fairings by having them fall off on the straight doing about 220km/h..
Will add tail tidy, crash protectors and new levers asap.

Noticed that some people have posted details of individual mods on their bikes.  :192:

Please don't do that as there is a whole section for that here:

Mods and Appearance (https://www.s1000r.co.uk/index.php/board,6.0.html)

Just stick to general pics of your bike with minimal chat about parts. If the topics goes "off topic" like that then I'll have to lock it.  :155:

In this instance I'm responding to reports from other members about whats been posted. Consequently that puts the mods/admins between two camps, we are dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.

Generally we keep well out of the topics and keep any moderation to an absolute minimum.

However, every forum has moderation and as a member you accept that. Sometimes it won't be to your liking but decisions are made to keep the forum running smoothly.

Being a mod/admin can be a thankless role so please don't redicule us in posts, it's not appreciated.

Did you stop to think that the ones complaining were the ones that don't need your consideration...might be being just a bit too sensitive. Maybe you should address them privately and suggest they get a spine in lieu of throwing your proverbial weight around like the Ghestopo.

This is a 'Motorcycle Forum' afterall....not a 'Classical Piano Forum'.

Just sayin....

I'm just a little chapped as the same mod deleted a portion of one of my posts in another thread due to "bad language".....please.  As I mentioned, there was a shot was taken at me (by someone who apparently does not know how to read or at least comprehend what was read or obviously meant by the author) and I responded in kind. The level of response from me was warranted and utilizing language that was no worse than what you hear every night on prime time TV.

If I may suggest...moderate utilizing common sense and I'd wager the ridicule will cease.

Cheers

Lets not throw all our toys out of the pram and wreck, what is to me, a great forum with some very knowledgeable members. It strikes me that the complaint from some members and the moderator is not the content of the posts but just the thread that they're posted to.
I have to agree that it can be difficult to find some of the historical subjects and some of them are all over the place. However, the search function works well. Hopefully we can sort this out without getting the UN involved.  :440:

The post deserved ridicule. It was completely disproportionate.

If someone posts in the wrong section and its really causing those with OCD grief then a more measured action would be to move the offending post, not lock down a thread.

If this forum is going to be moderated in such a heavy handed way , I doubt it will survive.

I only know of one biker board that allows anything, except child porn.
The rest all have some sort of moderation, some more, some less.

Think many of you need to chill out. An admin posts some guidance and some of you have tissy fit.

This is not heavy handed so please don't exaggerate.

Comments like we are "throwing our weight around like the Gestapo" are just ridiculous and totally disproportionate.

As previously mentioned, we rarely intervene in posts so it's not as if this is something that happens all the time. Apart from moving a few topics to their appropriate sections is all that's really happened. Nothing else, so please don't make a big fuss out of nothing that hasn't actually happened.

The mods and admins work hard on this forum and they can do without comments that are merely designed to flame a situation. Sorry but we can do without it. This forum will be moderated as necessary, nothing outrageous, simply day to day house keeping to keep things running smoothly.

As a forum we provide the a facility for members to gain and share information, make friends along the way, and enjoy being part of that community. Having simple rules to make that work is not unreasonable. If you can't accept that moderation will from time to take place then a forum isn't for you. It's as simple as that.

If the above isn't clear and you have some further comments then pm me.

Can we please get this topic back on track now please  :038:

Cheers  :821:

It's like those nitwits that say if you want track type handling you should have bought the RR in lieu of the R.  :440:

Its the road between Glossop and Buxton Goyt valley. My mate had just crashed on that same corner ten minutes earlier when we were coming the other way. We were killing time waiting for the recovery truck. We thought we would take it in turns to show him how the bend should have been taken. Found out when we got back that he had broken his cooler bone. He's more pissed about his bike.

Awsome bike and nature!

I'd LOVE to ride a bike in California! How expensive is it to rent a decent one? I was in Pasadena a little over a year ago for work, but 9 days/evenings was hardly enough to explore it buy public transportation and a couple of days with a rental car!

I rented a Harley from Eaglerider
http://www.eaglerider.com/?gclid=CNDIxJyv_8ECFYiCvQodQG0Arw (http://www.eaglerider.com/?gclid=CNDIxJyv_8ECFYiCvQodQG0Arw)
I was very happy with the bike and the service, I can recommend them and will do another trip next year with one of their bikes. This time not a Harley, I got that out of my system, maybe a K1300S/GT not sure yet
It worked out to be around US$160/day all included like unlimited kilometers and insurance.

The thought of crashing at that corner is absolutely terrifying. Everyone should take advanced training. No excuse for this on a dry day. Everyone should enjoy motorcycling for the long term, not the short term because of an early death.

So I would suggest this as an option.
Triggers quite easily.

Two things I don't like about the (loud) BMW alarm: it's not Thatcham approved (whyever not BMW?) and there's no separate dongle to arm/disarm it.

Do you happen to have a video or sound clip of your bike? I am so curious to hear how the exhaust sounds like. I hate the box, looks horrible and been thinking to either get rid of the box and put in a pipe like yours or  just cover up the box.

Another nice thing about those black panels is the texture so it grips the knees better.

Johnnybmwgood yes my panels are the silver,I actually don't mind them think it breaks it up a bit not going to bother changing them only thing I think I'll do is a tail tidy, like the exhaust note and looks and that's what I usually change on all my bike's,clutch lever is a bit of a strech but will live with it.love this bike first service on friday then will love it even more!!.😃

I have the full Akrapovic with a PCV and Autotune fitted. The sensor you see is a wideband sensor for the Autotune.

Haha it looks quite large from the side! Its actually only as wide as the tail section though. I had to borrow a friend's Kriega luggage to make the trip so it wasn't ideal for the s1000. It's a US30 and a US20 with a sleeping bag bungied to the back. Under the pillion seat there are two fabric loopholes and two steel hooks to wrap around.

In hindsight, I would much rather have a US30 and two US10s on the side to keep my COG lower. Even with a setup like that I was still able to hang off the side and get some good lean. I'm thinking a tankbag would also be useful.

Ultimately, the trip was a trial run for a 10 day Alps tour this September. If anyone is in two minds about travelling to Wales, I would definately recommend it - it's biking mecca. Even on a bank holiday weekend the roads were fairly empty. If you do, make sure to check out the Evo Triangle and route to Crossgates - easily the two best roads of my 5 years on a bike.

Post by: cas on May 26, 2015, 05:13:14 PM
Thanks Turks.
I'm off to the Pyrenees for 3 weeks in September and I was looking for ideas on attaching my luggage to the S1R without damaging paintwork. Going to use a waterproof bag of some sort. I have a tank bag but its magnetic one and the tank on the S1R is alloy so it wont stick so I will come up with some way of making it ok.
Last year I went on the GS I had but it had the Vario panniers which were great.

It's plenty quick enough, 100 dB sound test so JUST ok for Oulton Park.

Was only there for a 20 minute taster session but enjoyed it immensely, bike is supremely capable and not much can live with it on the way out of corners.

The front coming up on the power out of the first chicane up hilltop never got old.

You'll love it.  ;)

Thanks

Been recently 3 times in the south area. From here I can recommend some roads or Bundes/Landstrasse as it is known. These I recall had new or very decent pavement, there are some nice parts but the pavement is not perfect or has too much bitume joints.

B500: From Schluchsee to before Full-Rehuental / Koblenz and back. Don't continue or else traffic. Great quick corners perfect pavement.
You can do the same B500 from Schluchsee to the north I have not explored it all.

Or you can go through the L146 to Bernau in Schwarzwald also great.
From that area there are some like the L150 to Saint Blaisen
Can go to Todtmoos and from there take the L151 to Präg (80 Km/h zone but nice view and curves) then once there to the right on the L149 very known one and back to Bernau in Schwarzwald.

L112 from Glottertal to Sankt Peter is also great small curves nice tarmac.

L155 from Oberwihl through L151 to Todtmoos.

These are some I recall having good tarmac and S1000R friendly curves. Others are ok too more twisties etc, but to keep 100 Km/h there only the experts  :016: (not me certainly)

Hotel Die Halde on the L124 between Todtnau and Hofsgrund great menu nice view these are the small ski stations there.

Can't recommend much views because honestly, I rarely stop just want to ride on and on and on.... maybe in 5 years i go and make stops to watch the view.

In New Zealand after a wet ride down an unsealed road called the forgotten highway, through dense forest and bush, the bike was covered in mud that took a few scrubs to get off, but in rain mode handled the slippery surface just fine!

Evotech tail-tidy, rad guards, crash bars/bobbins, Wunderlich bar risers, Full Akra, Dynojet PC5 and Ventura pack rack.

Was a sweet road trip!!

I'm probably forgetting something... but here are my mods.
CRG arrow mirrors
Rhino Heavy Mirror Mounts
Pazzo shorty levers
Rizoma reservoir
Hotbodies rear hugger (now removed, broke, its a total pos, dont buy!)
Motografix White 3D Gel Motorcycle Tank Pad
Tomtom rider GPS
Cobra iradar 950 (hard to see - burried under "windshield." This, my iphone, and the gps connect to my sena smh-10 headset; pretty cool setup.)
DDM Tuning HID low beam UltraMoto55W.H7.5500K
DDM tuning HID high beam UltraCanbusMoto35W.9005.5500K
Laminx yellow headlight cover (stole the idea from DCS :) )
SW-Motech Quicklock Evo Micro tank bag (I freaking love this bag!)
underseat 12v relay connected to Battery Tender 5v usb hookup to power my phone inside my tail bag. :)
BMW comfort seat
BMW rear seat cover
Garage door opener mod on the right side panel!
..Just got a Yoshimura Fender Eliminator Kit, haven't put it on yet..

I wanted more intake noise, so I removed the little baffle between the air box and the snorkel, and it works AWESOME. Sounds great under load and I dont notice any loss in power. I also tried the exhaust valve mod, but I reverted because I didn't like the light drone on the highway and it didn't really make it sound better.

Have 3500 miles or so on the bike now, and just put on a new rear tire. I'm loving this bike!

Looks great Sub, nice job. I see you have the Rhino barends and CRG Arrow mirrors, which Rhino say equals about 12ounces (340g) each side. How do you find them for vibration damping?

yes its a tank bag, but i modded it to accept a tri strap thing and it hooks perfectly to the oem strap mounts under the seat! some pics are here.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/subw00er/albums/72157658303494086 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/subw00er/albums/72157658303494086)

I basically made three slits in the bottom and squeezed the straps through. The bag holds very well and i can slide things under the bag (had two bottles of wine under the bag once). You can loosen or tighten the straps because the slit is so narrow it holds them tight. It also doubles as a holder for little stuff inside. I really like the setup! I also run a power wire up through the front slit for my iphone. I had to order the bag from Europe (Italy I think), took a while to arrive but its really top quality. The bag expands up as well when you unzip it so its very functional. It holds 90% of what I need to carry. I can even fit a spare arai shield in there.

Of course i always carry my chase harper expanding bungee doohicky too under the rear seat. You never know when you're going to see a sweet CH slave air tank on the side of the road with a FREE sign on it! :)

The rhino bar ends and crg mirrors are a great way to reduce vibes and increase safety. I was one of those that literally could see nothing behind me at 30mph. I can ride up to 70 or so now and see pretty clearly under acceleration. I'm very happy with this mod - money well spent and the ends and crg are high quality. I like the notching adjustment they have - good for lane splitting and tight areas, and flip them back for perfect alignment..

The vibes transmitted to my hands is also a LOT less. When  I first got  the bike I would have numb palms after a ride. Thats totally gone away. The harmonics of the bars has definitely changed quite a bit.

I just threw on Rhino heavy weight mirror ends, the Rhino mounting bolts & CRG hindsight Lanesplitters.  On the scale those are 425 grams on each side.  That adds an additional 170 grams more than stock on each side. That is not counting the weight of the stock mirror that I took off since I figure the stock mirror does nothing for bar end weight / vibration reduction.

The vibes seem less but what really gets me ( unless I'm imagining things ) is that there is less wind buffeting from the stock mirrors.  I'll get more results on that next week if it stops raining and I can get up to triple digits.   :007:

Here's my R. Nothing much has been done to her.

Wrapped a few sections of the bike with Matt Metallic Blue vinyl
Low beam tinted yellow
HID Low Beam
Philips T10 LED Parking bulbs
Yoshimura Fender Eliminator
MRA Windshield
Stompgrips
Motografix Tank Pad
Hardwired Tomtom Rider
Hardwired 2 channel front rear camera
DNA Airfilter

Had aftermarket Dimotiv handlebars and bar end mirrors from Thailand, but back to stock cause the vibrations was driving me insane

Did you do wrap yourself??? I wrapped my K1300S and it was quite a task, I would give my results a 6/10, still need to learn a lot of the intricacies!

If you wrapped yourself, I am interested in how you did the tail sections, as they are quite intricate and have some serious cutouts and depressions and corner edges!!

Thanks guys! Would love to see a reversed white blue scheme. I am considering getting my rims repainted metallic blue since it's a little scuffed up, but that'll have to wait

Simon,

I did the wrap myself. It's not perfect, but you have to be really up close to notice some minor imperfections. For the tail section, took the tail fairings off and wrapped them individually. Goal was to have each part wrapped with one single piece of vinyl, and I succeeded at first. However, the depressed area started lifting off cause the vinyl was overstretched. Had to cut that small section out and do a overlay. Holding up much better now. Standing next to the bike, it's barely visible.  I can take some photos if you wanna see the overlay.

Second hardest part was the area under the rear pillon seat. One side's almost perfect, no lifting, but the other sides starting to lift. Thinking of redoing that but with the seat on, it's not noticeable. Used 3M Primer 94 on the underside to prevent it from lifting over time and to "seal" the edges.

Hi Alzo,

I saw that you fitted the black textured side panels from the S1000RR. Do you have the part number for those? I can't find anything close to £52 in Australia.

Thanks,
Fabian

Trim, fuel, lh, C46. 63. 8. 551. 925

I secured mine for £23.10 each + VAT.

I hope that this helps.

So had a bunch of GoPro clips with the S1KR chose the best possible footage to make this clip.
At least I've more or less managed to gain back some sense of speed with the camera angles.

Trips mainly in Black Forest plus one of the ones I did last year to the Swiss Alps. Definitively Black Forest is the S1KR's backyard playground, only missing would be a race track close.

Really? Mines a 2016 (Black) and it came with the older style. I did see a White model in the showroom that had the textured panels though.

Sorry - fitted to 2016 white model - Mine is a black 2016 which still had grey panels, so I ordered the black ones ........

Does this make sense now ....

I like my red bike (actually more than like it!) but I do wish I'd gone for white now as I'm considering a change to something like the Red/White/Blue they do the RR in and this would be easier on a white one I think.

Nice choice!

Hi all,

I picked up my S1000R last week and I´m having an absolute blast on it so far. It comes with pretty much everything I want on a bike so mods will be limited and on a as needed basis. I have added a Givi XS308 tank bag with the tank ring adapter. It doesn´t lock on as well as it should do so I will have to find a way to get it to latch on better.

It lights up the road as good as my old F800R and it absolutely scoots even keeping the revs under 6000rpm.

I think I will need a larger screen at some point and possibly something to keep my kid from flying off the back of the bike  :159:

Here are a couple of pics from my evening/night ride the other day:

As my bag is pretty much permanently on the rack I drilled holes in the rack and tapped in M8 threads. the bag is then bolted to the rack with 4 dome head M8 bolts. Hence the gravity defying look!  :028: :028: :028:

Mine with my mods to date.

BMW larger windscreen
Yoshimura Fender Eliminator
R&G Frame Sliders/BMW axle sliders and engine protectors.
Replaced front blinker stalks with short rear stalks.

Waiting for me to pick up is my color matched rear cowl (Pillion replacement).  On order is my R&G exhaust protector and plates to fill holes when I remove passenger peg mounts.

Still want to add bar end mirrors, short clutch/brake levers, and maybe Akra exhaust system and power commander.

I do not like the stock plate but refuse to pay $100 for one. Haven't gotten round to trying one of those Chinese $20 holders yet.
I'll pay $500 for as damper but not $100 for something that should cost $30. ;)

Very nice enjoy in good health.

In US too BMW is charging I think 500 more for that color.
Now that I know it's a sticker that's pretty bad.

Basically they are charging more for a white bike with stickers.

She looks good I always thought they went through the pain of coloring hence more dollars.

I don't know if it's just my but i think my Kreiga cube pocket sticks out a bit but i will live with that, its a nice way to keep track of your keys, wallet and phone.

Enjoyed the 200kms ive put on it so far. I have to say though, coming from a Honda the amount of noises I can hear from this motor freaks me out a bit. The rattling in particular. It will take some getting used to.

If it was Italian they would sing its praises for having so much character!! If it was a Honda it would be missing 40bhp (CB1000r) as well as all the toys. So enjoy its character and all the other benefits of owning a brilliant BMW.  :028:

To date I've only done a few things here and there:
Akra slip on (came with purchase)
Ohlins damper
Yoshi fender eliminator
T-rex frame sliders
Needed a bigger screen
Rizoma reverse retro mirrors
Rad/oil guards, glad I got them b/c I found HUGE ding on my left fork today  :230:)

Things I want next:
Go full exhaust with some sort of fuel controller
Front/rear axle sliders
Smaller turn signals
Chain adjuster

Sounds beautiful in my opinion, not too loud, pulls a little harder mid range but i did have a end can that was just pretty much just a straight pipe before as a test (pro race off ebay shitty thing) It gets lovely pops on the down shift or when coming on off throttle, plus side is its cheaper than akropovic and imo has a nicer end shape

yeah it was all off ebay, got the matte cf for around 200 and the gloss (belly pan and front and back guards) for like 300 which was a bargain, had to drive 100 miles or so to pick it up though

Hi mate, sorry for late reply, didn't visit forum for a while.
End can is Akrapovic, and it is stock on 2017 model. I have replaced stock headers, because I was annoyed with look. I am running Akrapovic titanium headers now, they starting to change color nicely after few kilometers done.

Temp was 127f, was fine with an evaporative vest even in an aerostich.
Yeah it's the full ti Evo arrow, attaches to the rear set. Fueling isn't perfect down low as I haven't done a tune. But it saves a tonne of weight and stops my foot getting too hot.

Who did you get to do it?
Also, did you fit the seat cover over the original and can you still access the two bolts easily enough to remove the seat. It's hard enough to get to the bolts with the one cover.

I finally got around to posting a picture. This is the 2017 I bought at salvage auction last Fall.  It only had 400 miles on it and I have put on additional 1000 this Spring.  It is a fun bike but a little rough on the frost heaves. I have added a few trinkets: tail tidy, chain adjusters, Corbin seat,  HP levers and sport screen.

Not at all!! I’m running the 15rr header with the exhaust valve. So it’s same power delivery as stock. Which is ultra smooth for me coming from my Ducati’s  :008: it pulls on my buddies tuned mt10 and I’m 50lbs heavier than him so i am happy!

Yeah I really like the PowerTech Performance Exhaust Carbon GPS slip on from the U.K. slightly deeper exhaust note and looks way better than the stock can. The Puig Enduro footpegs are very luxurious. :008:

My new to me bike that I purchased 2 weeks ago. Came with BMW Akrapovic slip on, Pazzo shorties, and BMW sport screen (which I've come to love the look of). My friend made custom bar ends out of 303 stainless steel for me that would accept my CRG mirrors. They weigh 12oz each which took almost all of the vibrations out. Bike looks much better without the factory mirrors. Haven't decided if I want them powder coated black or keep the beautiful stainless finish. More mods to come this week as they start arriving this week. Stay tuned!

Its a nice bike with character that the S1000R is missing. However, the S1000R is actually faster and also pulls on the Tuono in top gear roll ones. It was surprising!

I'm sure you can find someone with a Tuono to trade for your S1000R. The resale on those are weak compared to S1000R.

will be a 2nd bike. I love the look and character.. I tested a 2015 and yes the S1000R has it beat on power and torque but that V4 sound ...  :020:

Actually, the Tuono puts down more power and torque to the wheel. I think the S1000R is able to pull on the Tuono because of the gearing.

Not the 1000 ones.. 1100 they cheated a bit and made it on par according to dyno sheets

That is my though too. The S1000R is so fast because of its short gearing (which is not a bad think, considering its a naked bike) but I'm surprised that it pulls harder than the V4 1100.

The s1000R walks the tuono in top gear roll on starting from 40mph, and 50mph. If I start in 6th and tuono starts in 5th, the results are exact opposite.

No one is talking about the Tuono 1000. And bumping the displacement to 1077cc is no cheating. This is a street bike so there are no rules.

Thank you!

They are great, I like them better than the Bridgestones the bike came with. I get roughly 6000 miles out of the rears and I replace them just before the wear bars.

Beautiful!

Let's ride! I was in Joshua Tree this past Sat to do some stargazing.

Who would be up for a SoCal S1000R meet?

At the moment the 74 is closed between Hemet and Mountain Center, but we can take the long way through Anza to reach Idyllwild (https://goo.gl/maps/139HUy8xvs2ouTWeA).
Takes about 90 minutes each way between Hemet and Idyllwild.
Let's take this offline, you will find my Email on my website (https://www.expandingknowledge.com/).
I usually teach paragliding (https://www.expandingknowledge.com/Jerome/PG/School/Main.htm) on weekends (when most people are free) an often free Mon-Fri except this May 13 to 16 booked for students.

It would be great if you’d head over to the suspension board and give us a run down on what you’ve done, why you’ve done it and how it’s worked out for you please!  :028:

Eh, I'm not going to jump through hoops to get SS cleaner. Plenty of decent options here locally (much cheaper too). I was just curious since the Optiglanz looked like it did a good job. Thanks for the feedback.

Harpic is the answer.
It's cheap and very effective.

Toilet cleaner with hydrochloric acid in it? Seems like overkill for simply trying to polish SS that is in good shape. I might be worried about the rinse splattering onto other parts of the bike and doing damage where it lands.

Today my bike is an XR

Whoever came up with the concept of a sports engine inside a touring bike, should have a medal.
Infact, he should have several medals. Possibly all the medals!

This is a 2019 I think, the only other XR I have ridden was the very first one.
There are no vibrations on this bike, wish my R could be vibeless too.

Same setup. Same bar ends. They are awesome. I can almost see my back :038: No blind spots. No elbow views. Plus they look great! They may not be the greatest for those who can lane split but they are fairly adjustable so that may not even be too much a problem.

Interesting placement of the stands. Every picture Ive seen on store sites has the pitbull stand handle extending from the rear. Is there a reason you've done it differently?

All the Pitbull stands I have for the R and K series(shaft drive) have the handle pointing forwards.

I don't there is a right and wrong way, pointing forwards will be a little harder to line up, but the handle is somewhat out of the way then.

Personally I like the forward handle rear stand over the rear handle version simply because it is easier and safer way to lift the bike. Had similar stands for my dirt bikes back in the day.

Thank you Meguerra for that video---very clear and informative. The reason I asked was I recently purchased an ABBA sport bike stand for a couple of reasons one of which was I always worried a bit about risk of dropping bike when aligning and lifting bike using the rear facing handle on my pit bull stand...just as you mention.

I am curious now since I noticed the Pit Bull stand I have has an additional slot into which the handle can be placed. I'm wondering if its for reversing the way the stand is used to lift bike (rear to front)  :084:
