Cam Chain Tensioner Plug - Silver

Just changed the cam chain tensioner from the standard initial "Black" Tensioner Plug to the "Silver" one. Easy job, just keep things clean!
Should do for another 9,000 miles.

I got freaked by what sounded like the chain flapping against the casing but then the oil pushed the adjuster tight! Its only when being left long enough without starting for the oil to drain out of the piston.
Bike's done just over 9k so thought I would change the Bolt/Plug.

I get real bad rattle on startup.  I bought a manual tensioner but even though the install is pretty easy I'm just worried I'll make it too tight.  Starting to think maybe I should of went this route.  Brought it in to get it repaired under warranty but instead the stealership tried blaming it on my Motul 7100 oil I use and they couldn't replicate the issue since the temperatures that day was warm.  At the end of the day instead of fixing it under warranty they try sell me on an oil change    If your in Barrington IL dont go to that dealership lol.

Interesting, thanks for posting.  Do you mind me asking how much the silver tensioner was?

No the start up rattle is only when left for a day or so and only lasts a second or two.
I think the piston seal or valve seal in the plunger would need to be replaced to stop the oil draining over time.

 I just finished doing this to my bike.
 18 s1000r with 8837 miles.
 I had been noticing a cold start rattle since around 6000 miles and found out about the replacement silver plug but was told to wait until at least 8000 miles.
 That plug was a bear to thread back in with the tensioner pushing out on it. I'm not sure if there was an easier way but I managed to get it in.
 Cranked the bike after the install and got the same one to two second rattle then quiet on the next couple of starts but that's pretty much the way it was before.
 Now I'm kinda worried that I did this for nothing and wasted almost $50 lol.
  Might be too soon to tell. I'm planning on a ride tomorrow.
 If the cold start rattle continues should I put the original black plug back in?

I would follow BMW's instruction not to fit until at least 15,000 KM...  Who told you 8K miles?
