HP Forged wheels 190 or 200 tyre
on: July 31, 2020, 10:56:55 PM
Hey guys and girls,

Iím looking for some information about tyre size for the forged wheels. I bought my bike as an ex demo from a dealer and it came with forged wheels and a 190 rear tyre fitted. It only had 1,500km on it so they are still the oem tyres. Is this right or should it be a 200 tyre? The information I have been able to find is a bit sketchy and I donít have a lot of trust in my dealer based on past experiences.

The reason I ask is Iím going to need to replace it shortly and not sure whether to stick another 190 on or go with a 200 if thatís what bmw has intended for these wheels

Thanks,

Lindsay

I do not think it matters, the forged wheels are the same dimensions as the OEM wheels, Take your pick. Not sure what the benefits of a 200 wheel are  (and they are more expensive), but my guess is that unless this just fro track there will not be a lot of benefit going up in size.

Why do you think a 200 size tire is possibly needed?

Iíve read some references to the forged wheels being meant for a 200 tyre. The bmw Motorrad website also mentions this under the forged wheel option.

I just wanted to get a bit more info on this before I put new rubber on

I just looked at the bmw motorad website and it does mention for 2020 the forged wheels come with a 200 spec tire in rear.  The wheels in the picture look different than the ones in 2018 (mine is a 2018). I wonder if 2020 has a difference spec than previous ones. It also mentions the brakes are different as well.

Might want to check parts for the year of the bike you bought (if not a 2020).

S1000R w/ forged wheels come with a 190 rear

Even before the new RR came out, there were some fairly significant differences between the two bikes, maybe the next R will have a 200, but the current does not.

I just slapped a 200 Pirelli Corso III on my 17í HP wheels which came equipped with a 190 rear.   Not a night and day difference in my opinion as far as size variance but the tires themselves  are fantastic over my Bridgestone S20ís.  A couple thousand miles on the set so far and no codes thrown.

The BMW configurator begs to differ (click on forged wheel option and read description or click on attached file below-pdf):

I read somewhere, perhaps on the Michelin website, that you must use a 200 size rear tire with a forged wheel. It stated the rim slippage was possible with a 190 tire with a forged wheel. The reference was to Michelin tires.

Fair enough, but I owned a 2017 w/ forged wheels, it came with a 190/55 rear, so I guess that has changed recently.

(also, FWIW, my bike came with Bridgestones and not Michellin)
