Headlight LED kits?
on: May 16, 2020, 06:23:54 PM
Hi,

Has nyone fitted a headlight LED kit to get rid of all those annoying incandescent bulbs? If so, what brand and were they easy to fit?

Regards

Philip

I changed my headlights last November. I bought these from Hilox.eu they’re quite expensive but I am more than satisfied with these lights. The pattern is perfect and I don’t blind anyone.

HB3/9005: https://hilox.eu/h11-led-dimlicht-motor-xtr-black-5700k-hilox-performance-1?yotpo_token=0d46e95ab66973ead3a299dd0f1a78d94ca84067&utm_source=yotpo&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=map

H7: https://hilox.eu/h7-xtr-black-led-kit-5700k-hilox-performance-solo?yotpo_token=d121f4aa8088218b63f759a0370d7da96e5f0ad2&utm_source=yotpo&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=map

Just so you know, you need a HB3 / 9005 and a H7 light bulb and make sure you buy them in the same colour. I bought them bought at 5700K. Oh and don’t forget to buy the parking lights, those are “T10” !

Quick question re these LED's. Once fitted are you able to put the cover back on the headlight housing? I'm tempted to buy these but only if the cover can go back on as I don't want water-logged headlights lol. Thanks

Can't answer your question as it would depend on the model of LED bulb and how big the heat sink is. HOWEVER, one good solution I will be using when I do my retrofit over the winter (going to put a proper projector in the low-beam) is to use rubber dust covers. I know you are in UK and surely you can find locally, but here in Canada I have purchased many products in the past from the retrofitsource and they have these in various sizes as well;

So you can measure your dust cover and get the size you need to extend more and fit over the heat sink. Should give you more flexibility when choosing bulbs.

Go to the website I offered up previously.
They sell covers designed to fit they are not on the site.

Just for everyone's information, I removed the OEM dust cap and measured the inside diameter of the circle that holds the dust cap, with a digital caliper (accurate to one thousandth of an inch). It measured 68.3mm (2.69 inches) so should be a few MM extra if taken from outside of circle, which is the required diameter when choosing the dust cap cover. I would think 70mm would be the correct rubber dust cap size to fit snug, 65MM MIGHT fit but stretched, and 75MM would probably fit but more loose and I would be scare it would jiggle off with vibrations over time.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could share your fitment results here after purchasing the rubber dust cap, as it would save a lot of time for us who are not ordering quite yet! thanks!
