$20 windshield test
« on: March 26, 2020, 06:09:23 PM »
It's still too cold for me to ride much, but have been looking at windscreen options.  Someone posted about a $20 knockoff he found at WalMart.  I ordered it, and took it out for 30 miles on the highway today.  It's 39F here, froze my ass off.  But compared to stock, it does remove a very noticeable amount of wind off the chest.  Helmet is still in the wind as expected, but didn't seem any louder or turbulent.  I guess this is a knock off of the BMW official windscreen.

I really do not like the look of it.  but when it's cold, and if highway miles are on the agenda, I won't hesitate to install it.  For $20, it's a no brainer.

Here is the link.  Says 2014, fits my 2019 perfectly (need to use the rubber grommets off the stock screen)

I get the functionality, price  ,but in my opinion, these screens rob the original look i was attracted to when I was shopping around for this bike.  I bought a Wunderlich Sport screen (came with a scratch) and I hate it.  Helps with wind but transforms the bike into a sort of super sport look.  So binned it for those winter rides.

I had the same windshield, served me well..

Anyone who will spend upwards of $100 on a piece of heat-formed acrylic has more money than brains, imo.

That is VERY close to the design of the V-Stream. Without the screw depressions they would be hard to tell apart. Huge savings!

It's a BMW knock off screen.  And they are a-w-f-u-l.  They aren't very stiff at all and redirect air at your throat.  It's both uncomfortable and increases helmet noise.

Id put money that this came from the same spec as BMW uses. Its thick as hell, doesnt flex at all. Tested it to 105MPH today. Ill put a caliper on it for thickness.

Back in 2014 when I got mine there were no options yet it was the overpriced BMW or nothing at all.

I have collected a total of six wind screens over the last four years. Three screws, I change them out when I want. I quit caring what other people think a long time ago.
You should remember that its peace of mind youre after and not just a fixed machine.
