New Bike - Faulty
« on: February 11, 2020, 12:38:11 AM »
Hello,

I purchased a 2019 S1000R Sport (UK Model) about 8months ago, the bike has done less than 1500 miles.

In this time, I've had a new engine clutch and gearbox fitted under warranty. and the bike is now in the garage again(only 350 miles on new engine) this time the bike spluttered, bike fired a lot and the metallic noise was so loud. the bike was recovered, been in the garage for about a week and they finally think they found what caused it.

I've probably done 300+ miles just taking it to BMW multiple times to be fixed, and its spent over a month in the garage in total.

I've lost all faith in the machine, as twice I've been stranded over 50 miles away from home, this is the first bike I have ever regretted purchasing. what options do I have? is it possibly to request a replacement bike? or return the bike?

Thank you,

This is bad
Request a replacement and a return to see their response ask what bmw-
policy is on this situation
Also get legal advice on this
you will never feel confident on  this bike .
Good luck .

Id ask for a replacement or a refund. Not fit for purpose
be polite but firm. plus if you decided to sell it i think its value, due to its engine history will be severely affected.
best of luck

Thanks for the advice,

-Update-

Spoken to BMW and the Dealer I got the bike from, they need time to work out what they can do in this situation.

I have told them, that no matter what "Fixes" they do to the bike, I wont ever trust it and would prefer a replacement/return.

Very sad news.
I think your consumer affairs legislation should help you in this situation.
Give them a ring my wife's brother had a similar problem with a car and he received a total refund although I am uncertain on saga and how many times they had a go trying to fix it.

Good luck

Sorry for the delayed response, I do now have an update.

After several calls to BMW UK and the dealership they have finally agreed to replace the bike, originally they wanted me to pay for "Usage" on the old bike. but after several more phone calls, they have dropped that charge.

so soon I will receive a brand new S1000R without any extra costs.

Good to hear a good outcome in the end as I consider buying one, but hopefully wont experience the same! Which dealer did you get it from?
