Your tender seems to be damaging your batteries.

Both my Bikes on Yuasa batteries has been left un-tendered since mid September.
And both start just fine with charge on battery.
(Both are stored in a heated garage)

I have found that leaving a Battery Tender connected all winter will result in significant loss of electrolyte. At the same time, not keeping my batteries charged also kills them.

What I do is connect my battery tender to my various batteries on the first of every month. When the Battery Tender reaches float mode, usually no more than one day, I move it to the next battery. When all have been charged, I disconnect and wait for the next month.

Problem solved.

There are different abilities/qualities of maintenance chargers. ( do not use the term battery tender because that is a brand name of a unit I do not recommend to use) The good units have serious electronic monitoring systems that detect battery type (not including Lithium) and condition. A good maintenance charger will not trash a battery, a poor unit can cause harm. I suggest using Optimate products, there is another, Xtreme chargers are also good. Include me in the Yuasa battery club also. I think three years is plenty to get out of a battery, after that the odds are against you. If you only ride local what the heck but starting a bike with a failing battery can cause damage. Most of the new bikes have low voltage detection and will not attempt a start but not all have this feature. I don't know if it is part of the S bike electronics and don't intend to find out by trial.

FWIW, the OE BMW battery that I removed from my R as a preventative action (as mentioned earlier in this thread) sat at the back of my garage for the last 3 years. The battery in my quad bike died about a month ago and so I thought Id dig out the OE BMW battery and give it a go. It took a charge from my Optimate without any issues and has been powering the quad bike perfectly happily since.

I have a specific question for Yuasa users. I have a 2017 S1000R and am going to get a new battery. I have forgotten what I put in my old 2015 bike which I sold. I look around and the YTZ10S comes up. It is 1/2" (12mm) shorter than the stock battery. Is this the one you fellows are using? The stock OEM battery measures 5 11/16"  (144mm) wide, 3 3/16" (80mm) wide and 4 1/8" (105mm) high. The YTZ10S is a half inch shorter and about the same dimensions otherwise. This battery comes pre filled. I prefer the fill it your self version but that is okay.

Only 135 CCA vs 195 CCA for theYTZ10S also less ah. It is cheaper and lighter though.
