Cam chain tensioner
« on: November 16, 2019, 04:05:14 PM »
Hey all. My 2018 S1KR has excessive cam chain rattle when starting up and does not go away. I took out the tensioner, and when I compress it by hand, it is very scratchy, which I can gather is not normal? I have ordered a new unit, the silwer one.

Warranty did not cover it?

Not normal for sure. Take it back on warranty. All parts and labor will be covered.

I spoke to the sales agent and the tech. I had a Rapid bike EVO installed, ECU flashed, sprint air filter and full Akra system installed. They said cos of that, my warranty is void :435:

Yeah, with all that you probably have stepped over the line with the engine. The silver unit ought to help. I just put one in a buddies RR. You need to have 15,000 kilometers on the engine though. Even if they say the warranty is over on your engine the rest of the bike is un effected by your mods. So it should still be covered. I suspect the straw that broke things was the computer flash. There may be some dealers that overlook all that work but odds are no. You imply that you run the bike hard so at some point cam chain and sprockets will be needed. Chain stretch.

My bike has 15.900km and the the local motorrad dealership just changed the black plug to the silver plug after my complaints about the startup rattle and the rattle up until about 4000rpm.

The noise while riding definitely got alot quieter but the rattle while idleing is still there, maybe a bit quieter.

I am debating to go with a manual cam chain tensioner instead, but not sure yet, what do u guys think?
