Lithium-ion batteries are dangerous. That is why bike & most car manufacturers don't instal them. Inside, protection against short circuiting is a thin and porous strip of polypropylene that keeps the electrodes from touching. If that is breached, or water comes in contact with the electrodes, things get very hot very quickly. The batteries are also filled with a flammable electrolyte, one that can combust when it heats up, then really gets going once oxygen hits it. That liquid is mixed with a compound that can also burn your skin. Seems it stems from dodgy manufacturing or making them lighter, thinner & greater endurance. Eg Samsung 7 battery problems to the point banned from planes.
I am sticking with the lead/acid.

Because no lead acid battery has ever spontaneously caught on fire?

Most motorcycle Lithium Ion batteries are LiFePO4, which are not susceptible to the most of the concerns you've mentioned about phone batteries (thermal runaway, specifically)
