size for ignition security bolt
« on: August 15, 2019, 08:32:59 PM »
My bike developed a issue were it won't turn off even if the key is removed. After research it looks like the little button inside the ignition stays out so it cannot turn off the microswitch.

I'm going dig in this weekend and fix the button. I'm going to have to drill out the security bolt. I'm going to replace it with a non-BMW bolt.

What is the bolt size so I can find a nice stainless steel one at the local hardware store?

Max BMW parts show the bolts as M8x31
You should remember that its peace of mind youre after and not just a fixed machine.

Thank you so much. I looked up the part prior in hopes to find the size. I was looking for the bolt size in the description. It ended up being in the title of the part.

Thanks again!

Just updating this.

I extracted the bolt and its actually a M8x25. The M8x30 I bought originally ended up being too long and unusable. I also believe a standard hex head bolt will not work. I used a button head bolt. A socket cap bolt head will also work.

Your 30mm bolts were only 5mm away from a hacksaw

or just buy the right one the first time.

or you can add enough washers to take up 5mm
