Angled valve stems
« on: April 18, 2019, 10:45:54 AM »
A little help and advice required please kind people ... ???

Front wheel especially on the S1K is a real pain when checking the tyre pressures.

So, as I'm having a new pair of tyres fitted tomorrow and I'm considering having the above stems fitted at the same time.

Never had these on a bike previously so any words of wisdom or warning would be appreciated.

Do they loosen with speed ?
Do they have a noticeable effect the handling ?
Do the wheels require extra balance to compensate ?
Are there different types and if so is one better than another ?

Thanks in advance  :037:

I purchased these, been on for 4 years, no issues.

Weird, my bike came with 90 degree valve stems, maybe because I got the forged HP wheels?

If I'd known the forged wheels came with angled valve stems that would have made them worth the extra cost :)

If you're wary about the angled valve stems just keep one in your pocket and put it on when doing you're tyres. Simples

Nothing to be wary about, there a good idea...with a normal valve, at higher speeds, the centrifugal force can force the inner core of the valve in and cause a loss of pressure, I used to do a few top speed events on my Busa and saw it happen once , bikes where supposed to be fitted with a rubber O ringed , tin valve cap(super light and providing a better seal than the std plastic or alloy items) but one bike missed scrutineering and suffered a sudden deflation after the mile mark.

The angled valves (like a cars) dont suffer the centrifugal force loadings on the core of the valves, so as well as being easier to check, they are safer.

IIRC the first bike that came with them as std was the 2000 Kawasaki ZX12.

Picture I took at the Triumph motorcycle factory tour last month( Triumph also fit angled valves)

They are a great Idea and I'm told they add 1 hp per wheel  :152:

Thanks for all your helpful comments guys  :028:  Sorry for not replying earlier.

The ease of access when checking tyre pressure is brilliant.

We have just had the best 4 days of Easter Bank Holiday weather. So I have been out piling on the miles  :305:
