Questions from a S1000XR owner
« on: March 11, 2019, 02:59:29 AM »
Hello gents. I've owned a S1000XR for almost 4 years now, a bike I truly enjoy. Given that I haven't been doing a lot of two-up riding as I originally anticipated, I'm giving the S1000R a hard look.

I have a local dealership with a 2018 S1000R with HP wheels for $14k (USD). BMW giving out 0% financing this month is an added plus as well.

Some of my questions are:

The Akrapovic headers I run on the XR seem to be the same part number for both the R and XR. Can anyone confirm it fits the same?

I am running a Rapid Bike Evo, but on their site there isn't an option for the 2018 R (only 16-17). What tuning solutions are you running for the Euro4 bikes?

Anything else I should know about the 2018 Rs? Finding info for this bike sucks, as most of the search results are for the RR.

I'm already tracking I will need a EU4 adapter cable for the GS-911, bummer. I think I'm ready to make the compromise of less wind protection for more agility. The XR is a phenomenal handling bike for its size, I'm excited at the prospect of the same platform but with 50 lbs less.

Thanks all, if I make the move it'll most likely happen next weekend unless the bike I'm looking at gets sold.

I ave both in the garage (ha the R first then got the XR , more comfortable, for me anyway).

You are correct tat the headers will it, but the mid pipe is different, you would be better just selling the R system an looking for a full XR system. As far as the RB module goes I would call Yaman at RB USA an get confirmation that it oes not work on the newer models.

Welcome celebrity  :152:! I had the same dilemma when I bought my R. S1000R makes total sense. Not too high as a XR and almost 50lbs lighter. Its a no brainer. It handled better than my S1000RR which I swapped out for a Tuono

Welcome Cuban, just bought my XR because of you and now you're selling it for a S1000R (my previous choice)  :087:  :005:

From what i know is that the 2017- models are with stock akrapovic euro 4 slipon and have the same ending as a S1000XR so your akrapovic headers will fit on the S1000R.
About the Rapid Bike Evo no clue.

I believe there are no motor differences between the R and XR so I think RB will work as will the headers.

zombie, babied it's entire life!  :164:  okay, maybe not babied, but at least well maintained.

Thanks all for the welcome and replies. The S1000R right now is great value for the money, especially with those forged wheels. I'm making some moves this next weekend, I'm not 100% what it's going to be. The Mrs. is not too happy she's losing valuable real state with the seat situation, so we'll see.

Looking forward to doing a ton of reading on this forum this week. I might make the headers work, but the Rapid Bike I'll end up selling and going with a BrenTuning ECU flash. Either way, I'm excited about the possibilities.

Okay boys, so the S1000R deal was a no-go; I would have loved to get one, but the Mrs. shut it down. Got an equally awesome deal on a 2016 S1000R with 7 miles, you read that right, new sitting on a dealership floor. Same year as the one I had before, so it's a bike I know and love, plus all the mods transfer right over.  :007:

Dang it, I meant S1000XR not S1000R.  :138:  It seems I'm too junior to modify my own posts.
