Decat My S1000r
« on: March 05, 2019, 03:24:20 PM »
Hello All

Just bought a 2017 S1000r, loving it but need to get rid of the Cat looks rubbish, can anyone give me advice on the best way to go I do not want to mess with the ECU or make the bike louder just for looks really. Thanks

If you're just doing it for looks, I'd suggest going with a tecbike cat cover or similar...  there is no easy way to decat an S1000R, you have to either replace the headers completely or cut off the catalytic converter and install a cat eliminator pipe, but I don't think one exists for the 2017+ bikes yet.

Short version, you need to buy new headers for a 2017+, way more money than I'd spend if all I cared about was looks.

I've done it - as soon as you remove that cat the noise goes through the roof too. You have no choice in that unfortunately.

First and in fact only thing I did when I got my bike was to de-cat it. As you say, it's ugly beyond words and with the Akra Stainless Steel set up not only have I saved a vital (!) few kgs but more importantly (genuinely) the bike sounds sublime!
Go for it - no hesitation!

Thanks for that, was it just a straight fitment no ECU adjustment? Was also looking at Austin Racing complete system great price but have heard it would need ECU setting up

It took a while for me to establish, but there is no need for ECU adjustment. A fellow owner on here confirmed this (better than I can) but I believe from 2017 models onward (mine is a 2017), no ECU adjustments/piggy-backs are needed, so you'll be fine. I've had no issues apart from the neighbours...  :008:

Sounds promising, which system did you go for?

I kept the original Akra end can and went for the Akra stainless steel headers to can. The Akra titanium although lovely and even lighter was just too much for me  :006:

The video from windyrun is awesome and gives a good impression of how it could sound in reality. That said, if you can hear a straight through system before you commit this would be the best course of action. To me, the catless headers and original end can make a reasonable compromise both in terms of noise and cost.

Congrats on your new mods! I bet it sounds and looks awesome.

I've considered the same config as you (keeping oem end can).
