Is an all new S1000R coming?
« on: November 20, 2018, 12:28:25 PM »
Seeing as BMW just announced an all new S1000RR, do you guys know if they will be announcing a new S1000R as well? In the recent interview with 44teeth, the BMW rep states that the idea with the new engine was to bring the low end torque of the single r and high end torque of the double rr. Does that mean they negate the need for a single r? Is there any news surrounding the possibility that a new single r will be coming out soon? I ask cause i'm in the market for one and don't want to buy one and have a new one come out soon after.

If there is a new R in the planning it will not surface for at least another year and more than likely won't be available to buy for a fair bit after that.

Dealerships do not know these things and they speculate like the general public.

I will be all over that new RR to replace both my R and RR when they drop in prices used. Main motivation to get a R for me was the lack of low and midrange on my RR.

I would be very surprised if a brand new R (and XR, for that matter) don't follow the new RR within a year or two.

Both the R and the XR are starting to fall behind their competition, IMO.

A RR cant replace the R. Its not just the motor, the ergos are quite different. Unless there is an option with bars and lowered pegs....

What he said.

My only interest in the new RR is that it should lead to a new R eventually. The attraction of the R is its overall road-biased package, not just its low end engine characteristics.

I've always said that my days of Sportsbikes are over.

However ...

I was at motorcycle live at the NEC on the opening day last weekend and had a good climb all over the new RR. Funny that someone should mention 44teeth but Baron von Grumble from 44teeth was hanging around the BMW stand while I was there, but I digress.
The new RR is just something else, and the more I Went back to look at throughout the day the more I want one. It will have to be the M Packaged model in motorsport colours though as the standard red did nothing for me.
As soon as they are in the dealerships I will be giving my friendly salesman a call to grab myself a demo on one as my single R is due for renewal this year anyway. Generally they are pretty good with test rides too, throw you the keys first thing in the morning and tell you to come back before they close for the day. So a full day in the saddle will tell me wether my sportsbike days really are over or not.
