NEW S1000R LACKS POWER
« on: November 12, 2018, 08:32:49 PM »
I tried some models a few weeks ago and loved the top end power rush from 6-7000 revs its just doing power wheelies, I decided to invest and buy a new one so finished the break in and got the first service done. I noticed it seemed like the bike was in rain mode all the time as the power delivery was smooth so went to BMW who said the bike is normal. I DONT agree Im 99% i,m not getting the full power . Feels like the valves are not fully opening or its not getting enough fuel but I,m not an expert. - Any ideas ? :440:

Easy, get it on a dyno, that will tell you for sure if something is fundamentally amiss.

Thanks this is my plan , once I get the results my doubt is how do I know what the correct power readings should be (I only see the published figure of 165bhp but sure what it should be at the rear wheel?)

Seems to vary from the magazines ive read, anywhere between 150ish to 160 seems normal, dynos and conditions do vary of course.

Your S1000 will not be the first the dyno operator will have tested so be guided by him to an extent...either way if it is so lacking on power as you think, it will show up..

Let us know how you get on.

The valves are not fully opening? That's not even possible. You're right to leave it to the experts

Unless its fitted incorrectly ,the air box hasnt been put back together as it should and/or  disturbed any plumbing going to/from the air box...Its unlikely but there are sufficiently talented fools that can muck up the most simplest of things up... :169:
