Soaked this morning, now limp mode on
« on: November 07, 2018, 09:08:16 PM »
As title, major downpour in London this morning. I was in it for an hour, then had to leave the bike in it for another few hours.

Starts fine and rode ok for a mile, then limp mode came on. Turned it off an on a few times and it went again, then another mile or so down the road it came on and stayed on for the whole of my commute. A usually 50 minute journey took 2 hrs 10 minutes!

Have looked at and disconnected the battery, all is fine there, and not being a mechanic a bit stumped now.

Is there a way to get a fault code off the bike?

If you are still under warranty I would call BMW roadside assist. Otherwise GS911 or an ODBC scan tool

If you look on Ebay there are plenty of adds shown a GS911 for hire maybe one near to you. I believe  for a small fee they will attend plug in the GS 911 and  diagnose a possible fault. I have one but a bit of a journey and if bike plays up maybe a very long journey.

I would try to leave the bike in a dry place for a few hours. Maybe there's moisture some where that causes malfunctions...

Not sure this is a fair statement(yet). Last year on our return home day I rode in torrential rain for 5 hours(personally I was soaked by the time we got home), but my point is my S1KR performed flawlessly and did not skip a beat.

I think that the possible damage was made while the bike was still. That allowed water/moisture to get to places it doesn't suppose to be.
Give it a few hours in dry and, if possible, warm conditions and see how that goes...

I'd like to add that I have ridden my s1000r in rain many times without any adverse affect on the bike. Me on the other hand :)
