Damn it!!

Reading the other thread linked to above, it's most likely a cam related issue then. Mine's off the road until next season and when i put it back on it needs its 12k service and first MOT so it has to go in.  I think I'll bite the bullet and ask them to check the cam's. Mine's out of warranty.

Knave, if your noise is exactly like mine with a ticking on the right side and more of a metallic pinging on the left side then I dont think you have a cam issue. I've heard bad cams before and it's a more subtle but revolutionary clicking. I'm not saying that you shouldnt check the cams because that is definitely wise at the 12k service tho. Mine is at 14k and had a valve clearance check and they didnt see anything out of the ordinary tho  :157: I say we should just accept that BMW makes some really noisy engines and enjoy these beasts  :008: :018:

Thanks for that.

I'll get the cams checked anyway and report back when i do, even though that is likely to be March now. All year around i ride a Daytona 675 (just come back in from a ride actually) and that makes a ticking noise. Clearances just been done on that for 24k, no issues (and my mechanic is ridiculously stringent, checking everything).

To clarify for anybody reading this, the sound from my bike that I posed is primarily coming from the bottom of the engine, not the top. Its right where the clutch cover is on the left side and stator cover (i believe) on the right side. When I rev the engine up to say 3k, the clunking is not present but the ticking is still there and continues through all rpm's and is only really noticeable when on the throttle vs off. It hard to get a really clear clip of exactly how the clicking sound in a video because of how loud the exhaust is.  :021:

Exhaust leak, perhaps?
Twist the right grip until you see G*d....then back off...just a little bit.

Put the stock exhaust back to properly diagnose it. Are the exhaust valves in the headers making these sounds?

Sorry for the late reply guys! The previous owner cut the stock cat and muffler off and fit on an Austin Racing exhaust that retained the stock headers. It DOES have an exhaust leak where it mounts but I don't think that all that sound could be coming from just those little leaks?? I will remove the exhaust and properly seal it with some exhaust sealant as i have tried tightening with proper exhaust clamps already with no luck.  :152:
