Motoscan app + OBD2 compatible adapter
« on: October 27, 2018, 09:36:39 AM »
Checking the Motoscan website, it says that due to a format restriction, not all OBD2 adapters support resetting the service schedule or setting date.

the ELM327 based adapters have certain limitations. The most important of these is limiting the length of data sent to the controller. The developers have set the maximum standard length of 8 bytes and thus limited the deviating BMW Motorrad specific diagnosis . In most cases, the length is sufficient, but the functions, such as the setting of vehicle date (required for service reset) or the coding of certain parameters are therefore unfortunately not technically possible.

I have a very cheap chinese ODB2 that Ive been using successfully on cars over the years, I tried using it on the S1000R with the demonstration version of the app, and it works as well. But the app warns me that not all the functions will be available, since it has the 8byte limitation.

My question is, anybody tried forcing the app to reset the schedule with a cheap adapter?

Is there any adapter that is not stated in their website that you know can reset the schedule?

These are the recommended, all of them are 70+ ...
OBDLink MX Bluetooth, OBDLink MX WLAN and OBDLink LX
 UniCarScan BT UCSI-2000

I am looking for the cheapest way to do this..  :155:

OBDLink works. All the cheap chinese didn't work for me. They are sitting in my garage collecting dust

On my testings with the cheap adapter, I found that there are a lot of error codes stored on the ECU, nothing serious I suppose, since the bike didn't warned me, but the motoscan app only delivers a code, no description.

Is it the same with the OBDlink?

I did the OBD device test with the app using my current cheapo device as well and it stated it was not compatible. I am not keen on buying a bunch of "cheap" devices only to keep having the same issue.

So I will also be investing in an OBDLink LX in the near future since it is known to work.
Think of it this way - it is still cheaper than a GS-911.
I got nothing.....

Yeah, I spent about $30 on cheapo adapters before giving up!

I have a 2017 S1000R. I have tried the OBDlink LX which plugs directly into the OBD port on the bike. I cannot get the MotoScan app to connect to the bike. I get error messages.
Is the something about 2017 model?

Nope, don't think so, because I've got a 2017/2018 model S1000R and I connected directly to the OBDII port with MotoScan yesterday. I successfully connected with both my ELM327 Bluetooth and my ELM327 WiFi OBDII connectors.

I didn't reset anything though, as I don't need to, and I only have the demo free version of Motoscan so far.

I am using an OBDlink LX plugged directly into the OBDII port (rectangular) of my 2017 s1k.

To be more specific, I seem to make an overall connection (maybe), but when I tap a function I get a "no connection" to that function
