Broke the rear LED turn indicator... again!
« on: April 21, 2018, 12:22:27 AM »
Hey guys,

Managed to brake the rear turn indicator again, they are very weak and last time dealer charged me $100 to fit a new one that lasted only a month. Does anyone have any ideas on how to avoid this from happening in the future and get a replacement one cheaper?

Many thanks!

Not sure how you manage to break them? I have hit mine pretty hard on occasion and all that happens is they pop out of the bracket. normally just have to loosen the screw, pop it back in and then tighten screw.

Do you have photos of here you break them? Also, $100 seems quite excessive to replace(how much is labour, as it is quite easy to replace yourself).

They get out of the socket quite easily and because there's a thin wire that runs inside it tears apart, so the signal doesn't look broken per se but it doesn't work. Apparently its a common issue with new LED light and my dealership told me that I'm not the first and the last with this issue :(

Just to repeat the question though, what are you doing to break them in the first place? I dont recall any similar issues being reported here, so it sounds like youre doing something different to the rest of us?

Just accidentally hitting (more like touching) it with my leg when walking in the garage

In fairness to the OP i have had to refit mine on about 3/4 occasions. With a tail tidy they definitely poke out more and sometimes you just don't stick your leg out enough when swinging it over.

It's not too bad when you're at home but when you're out and about it's a pain.

Hmmm... perhaps a warm-up stretch might help?

The bike is stationary in the garage, I broke the LED when WALKING close to it, not from getting on/off.
Anyway, I wanted to hear if someone knows a cheaper alternative then $100 dealer visit again

You can get them from KFM for about $40US a pop (plus shipping):

They do charge a flat rate for shipping, but you could still make it economical by ordering a dozen or so.  Sounds like you'll need them.  :002:

I just replaced front and rear turn signals with LED BMW style turn signals (Ebay chinese ones), plug and play, Fit just like OEM, and doesn't throw any codes on the dash.
They are $40/shipped to US atleast
