Shop swapped my Master Cylinder? Nissin vs. Brembo.
« on: April 13, 2018, 07:12:52 PM »
I have had extensive repairs to my bike after a pretty bad in-city wreck. In changing out the levers and handlebar, etc I see that the mater Cylinder has been replaced and that it's now a Nissin part.  I believe the original part was Brembo.  I'm partial to keeping the bike as it was, and not using sub-par parts - Brembo is a big one to me.

Am I right in saying that the new part is not part of the stock spec?  Am I also right in saying that Nissin is just not as good as Brembo?

Thanks to those who know.

I can't confirm whether you should have Brembo or Nissin, but looking at the parts fiche there is a single BMW part# for all years SingleR front brake master cylinder. I can't check mine now because it is at a friends house, but I can tell you that my XR has a Nissin MC(though I am looking to change it out as the feel performance at the lever is not on par with the R).

The stock MC is most definitely a Nissin

Thanks for checking!  Agree - it feels like the wrong choice for this caliber bike.

Have to agree, cable clutch and non-adjustable lever are the biggest oversights on this bike (for me, at least)

The stock MC is Nissin because BREMBO looks much more impressive on a caliper than a master cylinder where it is not clearly visible.
Nissin is respected manufacturer, and it doesn't make much difference to me that it is not Brembo - as long as it works well then I'm happy (and the brakes on this bike are very good).
I got nothing.....

I have no issue with Nissin. They make quality gear. Just because they aren't THE name in brakes, doesn't mean they don't make a great product.

Brand perception goes a long way.  But if you argue that the human brain makes its own prejudices real through a series of subconscious actions, then a sub-standard-brand part could actually be a weakness.
