Took my bike into the dealer Friday, they said there was a seal they needed to replace, but I don't think that's the issue... They had to order the seal, so we shall see, I guess.

My 17 has a slight spray on the cat but no other issues.   Took it to my great local dealer, and BMW Aust covered it under warranty (good support!).  Pump was replaced yesterday, and took long ride him and no coolant blowing out on to the cat now. New pump looks quite different, which hopefully means they have fixed the problem.

Interesting, since my cheap-a$$ dealer is only replacing seals, according to what they told me... the dealer I have to deal with is such garbage I've been waiting 3 weeks for the parts only to get a call Wednesday to tell me that "good news, BMW will cover the repair under warranty".  Well I would hope so, it's clearly a warranty item.

They hadn't even ordered the parts.... *sigh*

Well not a good start.
Bike in for 1st service, told that they had topped up the coolant as it was low Rode the bike to work then home 42 miles in total and the level is below the Min mark again. No obvious leaks, no puddles on garage floor.
Taking it back tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that mate but also not that surprised.

Can you see any coolant leaks from the weep hole under the pump?

The recovery person who took my bike back to BMW for repair suggested to always ask for a loan vehicle, even if you don't need it, BMW prioritise repairs for customers who have a loan vehicle.makes sense.

I couldn't be bothered to take it in last time so called BMW Assist to take it to the dealer and return it to me, which they did without quibble.

Next time I will ask for a loan car as well and leave it on the drive... :038:

Just to add , the water pump must be a BMW thing as last Saturday I met up with a few friends I hadnt seen for ages who ride the GS adventure type bikes and out of the 3 of them, 2 had replacement pumps, one again leaked a few weeks after its replacement..

At least they checked it.  I bought an approved used 2017 model a couple of weeks ago.  Supposed to have a full inspection and check before it goes out, but when I took the side fairing off to fit radiator guards, there was not a drop of coolant in the expansion tank.  No signs of a leak anywhere, nothing from the weep hole on the pump so no idea where it went.  I know sports bikes can be thirsty, but I have never heard of them drinking water before  :003:

Don't worry too much, according to Crazybiker, it's not a very common problem ;)

My 2018 model seems to have discharged small amounts from this area.
However, I just completed a month long tour of Spain and France which included four days at Almeria Circuit and covered 6500 miles but the overflow tank is still at a normal level.
Should I be taking it in to the dealer?

My 2018 at 3000km was showing signs of leaking on the cat after a hard ride. After further inspection, i saw that it was coming from the grommet on the underside of the water pump.
took it to the dealer, made an appointment the same week. they replaced the water pump on warranty.
According to the service manager (who's a decent guy) he's only seen a few 'weeping pumps' on both 17 and 18 models.
...at 4900km now, issue has not resurfaced.
