Trying to remove front and rear wheel. Need tool sizes
« on: March 13, 2018, 04:17:55 AM »
Hey guys I need some help here.  I was trying to remove my front and rear wheels tonight to send our for powder coating.  After removing the two front calipers and un-screwing the two bolts at the bottom of the lower legs and removing the axle slider protector I realized I  didnt have a big enough hex to unscrew the axle nut.  I searched the web for the rear wheel nut size and front wheel but only found the size for the rear wheel on a S1000RR.  Can anyone let me know what size tool or Hex I would need for the front?  And what size I need for the rear?  And is the rear axle threaded the same as the front?
Any help would be appreciated

It's a 24mm axle tool to remove the front wheel.  Axle tools are pretty universal- they all have all the common sizes built in to them.  Reasonably cheap, too, and something ev very motorcyclist should have in the tool box.

Rear nut is an unusual size; the socket required is 34mm.

Me think you should have left the two bolts from the left fork(or was it right) in place.
This is how the wheel is lined up in between the fork legs.

You are correct that you do not need to loosen the left (clutch side) axle pinch bolts to remove the front wheel, but in reality it is not a big deal. These need to come out when the forks are serviced and are pretty straight forward to seat again.
