Rusty bar ends...
« on: March 07, 2018, 08:18:56 PM »
Iíve had my bike for almost 2 years now, just coming to the end of the warranty period.  I got a letter from BMW inviting me for a final pre-warranty checkup, which Iíll be going to next week.

One thing Iíve recently noticed is a surprising amount of corrosion on the bar-ends.  They havenít been hit, damaged, scratched, or washed with any harsh cleaners, so Iím wondering whether they should be covered under the warranty.

Has anyone else experienced similar?

Guess not, then.

I'll mention it tomorrow anyway and see what (if anything) they're prepared to do.

Yea, the S1kR forum can be pretty quiet.

I reckon you've got a good case to push for a manufacturing defect, unless BMW finds damage or scuffing which could be blamed as contributing to the corrosion.

I replaced mine with Rizoma bar end and mirrors, the stockers are bulky shittylookingthings.

The black paint on the bar ends of both the 2014 bike I had and now my current 2017 bike has worn away in areas and gone rusty. I can only guess that it's the sleeve of my jacket that's rubbing the ends. I've not encountered this before on any other bike I've owned.

Same for me on my 15 bike, but caused by the Superfabric overlay on the heels of my wet weather gloves. Worse on the throttle side, for obvious reasons.

I'm deeply impressed by the UK dealer! Sending a letter for final pre-warranty check up is great. Usually dealers try to avoid any warranty claims :008: :008:

No.  So I might take it up with BMW instead.
