2017 akra headers and 2017 gp can installed on 2015 S1000R
« on: February 11, 2018, 04:42:47 AM »
Ok so today my 2015 S1000R had the 2017 akra headers and 2017 GP can installed. The 2017 system fit flawlessly. The only issue I had originally was thinking I had to buy a right 2017 passenger foot bracket because the 2017 gp can mounts to a hole on the lower part of the 2017 passenger foot bracket. And it costs $279. But then after doing some research I found out Akra, R&G and evotech made an exhaust mount for the 2017 exhaust can or any exhaust but they had them listed for 2017 models. So on a hunch I looked on max bmws microfische and saw that the subframe on the 2014-18 models was the same part #. Therefore all 3 companies exhaust mount brackets would fit. First I looked up R&Gs but they were on backorder everywhere. The R&G model came as a bracket alone for $86 or with a block off plate as a kit for $101.95.  The evotech also came as a mounting bracket or a kit for $100. And the Akra was the most expensive since its carbon fiber for $150 but didnt come with a block off plate for the left side.

The only other parts you would need to buy seperate are 2 OEM BMW parts in order to mount the can to the exhaust mount bracket. Its the rubber vibration gromet that is inside the hole in the 2017 passenger foot bracket where the stock can mounts to. And the spacer sleeve. Total $12.40. The part numbers are as follows
Rubber vibration insulation 18217717852
Spacer sleeve 18217672806

Once i have everything buttoned up I will post pics. I rode the bike without the rapid bike plugged in to see how it rode and am waiting on the my tuning to arrive. Didnt want to have the rapid bike plugged into the harness because if the bike runs with the rapid bike without the my tuning , once the my tuning is installed i would need to plug the rapid bike into my computer and have yaman remote access the rapid bike and my tuning through the rapid bike program on my computer to mate the my tuning to the rapid bike. This way when the my tuning arrives i install it. Plug the rapid bike in and start the bike.

Just waiting on the 2017 BMW rubber vibration gromet and sleeve to arrive so I can bolt the 2017 Akra gp can to the Evotech exhaust mounting bracket.  Right now I have a ziptie holding it in place.

Thanks.  Cant wait to start her up.  Installed the Rapid bike and waiting on the my tuning to come in on Tuesday.  And waiting on my tank, side fairings, lower belly fairings and the side plates that are on either side of the fascia to come back from the painters in BMW Black sapphire metallic.  Everything else on the bike is carbon fiber.  The tank cover and side tank covers are matte carbon and everything else is gloss carbon

I installed the my tuning today.  Had to wait a few days because as I was about to install the my tuning on Thursday I noticed that the Akra link pipe didnt have a bung for the O2 sensor.  I called the Akra distributor and asked why the install instructions have a bung on the link pipe but the link doesnt.  He said thats a pic of the RR full system.  I check on the Akra site and looked at the R headers and sure enough they didnt have a bung but the RR had them.  So I asked can I return them to get the RR headers and he asked if I bolted the headers on already.  Since they were I couldnt return them.  If the entire exhaust was just fitted then I could have exchanged it.  So I asked how much was a link pipe with a bung.  It costs $226 but buddy sells things to me at cost so I know what the dealer cost would be.  Either way it wasnt cheap.  Plus it would be a 4-6 week back order and I didnt want to start the bike without the link pipe and my tuning installed, otherwise if the bike is turned on without a my tuning and then later its added , Yaman at rapid bike would have to remotely access the my tuning through my laptop and mate it to the bike and rapid bike.  Annoying process.  So I took the bung that came with the my tuning , removed the link pipe with the GP can on it and brought it to a muffle guy who welded in on for me.

I also got my parts back from the painter.  I had the tank, side fairings, lower belly fairings and the 2 pieces on either side of the fascia painted bmw black sapphire metallic to match the rest of the bike that is gloss and matte twill carbon.  However the painter never sanded the parts since paint doesnt adhere well to gloss parts.  And he never primed them. You could lots of rough areas, and some red specks coming through that werent painted properly and eventually some of the paint would peel.  But there is a silver lining to the messed up paint job.  I decided tonight that I will get the side radiator panels that the side fairings attach to painted black sapphire as well.  That way every part is either carbon fiber or painted black sapphire and no black plastic.  Here is a better pic of the bike on the bursig stand with the akra headers and exhaust can on the bike with the painted tank and side fairing which will be removed once the bike starts and the rapid bike tested.  And an old pic of the bike with the carbon on it and parts which havent been painted as well as the Arrow competition evo full system which I since sold.

Oh and I also ordered the side fairing stickers that went on the black storm S1000R.  The one that said S1000 in white with the R in red.  And I ordered black and red carbon stickers which will go over the blue and white parts on the roundels and then Ill either spray them with clear gloss or have them wrapped so as not to feel that they are stickers.  And after that I am done with this bike.  Nothing else to do.  But my favorite mod was selling my Wunderlich sport wind screen and getting the MVR touring screen.  It looks so much better on the bike.

Conquest carbon gloss twill carbon fascia
Full six carbon gloss twill front fender
Full six carbon gloss twill tail strada
Full six carbon gloss twill tail strada extension
Full six carbon gloss twill rear hugger
Full six carbon gloss twill chain guard
Full six carbon matte twill tank cover
Full six carbon matte twill tank side covers

And the wheels are coming off Thursday once I get the tool for the front axle and the 34mm socket for the rear wheel and the wheels will be powder coated magnesium matte gold.  Once everything is bolted on Ill take better pics and post them and Ill make a video with sound.

That's a hell of a lot of work for an exhaust.  Paint's looking good tho. My 2017 is currently in for its 6k service. I've asked them to fit red silicone hoses too. Trying to bring the red through the bike but keep it looking factory. After seeing yours, I think a carbon hugger next for me.

Im the President of a MC here on Long Island and we have another charter in Brooklyn.  Harleys only.  And my club name is Overkill because of how I modify both my harleys and what I do to my sport bikes.  If you look close at the bike when it was red you will see different bars, maybe see adjustable levers, lever guards, rear sets, engine covers, frame sliders, turn signals, seat covers that have gel inserts, axle sliders, reservoirs, tail tidy, air box delete, airfilter, and I installed LED lights in the fascia along doing the head light mod.  So with all the work done the exhaust was actually not as hard compared with all the other stuff. It a lot easier to do all these mods when your buddy sells you things at cost and I compensate him with other customers as well as having my brother inlaw who is a contractor expand his house from 1600 square feet to 3200 do all the work on his house at 35% less than what least expensive contractor quoted him.

You need carbon radiator cowls to carry the carbon through the bike.  There's loads at the back but nothing in the area of the front sides.
