My group of riding buddies has an annual ride from SoCal to Monterey we do every year.  Traditionally it's held the first or second weekend of December, but one of our group is moving out of state next weekend, so we moved up the date.

The picture was taken on a road called Parkfield Grade.  It's nine miles of unpaved, loose dust and dirt, but stellar views.

It's perfect riding weather in my corner of the world, so I went out for a nice day ride today.  472 miles of good times.

Along the way, I stopped to take this Glamir shot of my bike:

Where was that photo taken? Looks like the Sahara Desert 🌵 in the background.

I never knew American had a desert. Should have concentrated on geography more at school. 😄

What really impresses me about this (apart from the great scenery) is the mileage that Miles put in. 472 miles is basically the distance from my house here in Somerset up to Inveraray in Scotland. Thatís about a 9 hour drive, mostly on motorways where average speeds will be constantly high. To be able to do that kind of mileage (and Iím going to assume that freeways were avoided) shows how the US is still full of wide open spaces to be enjoyed on two wheels and that Miles is no slouch.

The friend I rode with came down from Orange County, so I had about 70 miles of freeway to get to our meeting point,  Other than that, there were only about 15 miles on freeways.

I was on the bike at 8 in the morning and rolled back into the garage at ten 'til six in the evening.  Our lunch stop was about 20 minutes at a fast food place.

So, all that said, out in the desert you can keep up a fairly jaunty pace.  Mind you, I never once exceeded the legally posted speed limit, though.

By the way, the pic is properly full-sized.  Open in a new tab for hi-res goodness.
