Sportrack for S1000R!
« on: January 12, 2018, 05:06:15 PM »
Sportbikes may have storage limitations, but with a Hepco & Beck Sportrack, there are more possibilities than ever for mounting luggage. The Sportrack replaces the rear seat, which you probably don't use, and makes it into a sturdy mounting surface. You are able to mount Hepco and Becker soft bags or other luggage as you please! Made from anodized aluminum, the Sportrack is light but strong. Installation is easy and it locks securely to the rear of the bike.

Would it be possible to mount a Journey top box to this using the universal alu rack?

Yes... well kinda. A couple of the Journey cases have options that include the universal rack. This can be mounted to the Sportrack. A universal Alurack will not mount to a Sportrack. Here is the link to the cases. The Journey 30 could be a good case for a Sportrack.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the Alurack and a Journey TC50 so was hoping there may be some way to make them fit. Looks like it's going to be better to try to sell them and get some new luggage more suited to the BMW.

I understand now what you would like to do. Unfortunately, it just would not work on a Sportrack because of the latch on the underside of the case. If you mounted the Alurack on the Sportrack, there would be no clearance for the latch to attach. That is why the cases with universal adapters have a different design. The case has a flat plate that allows the case to slide and click into place. Below are pictures of this system.

Sold my old luggage and was going to go ahead with this setup however on reading the pdf instruction sheet for the sportrack it seems to suggest that the universal adapter is not compatible because it would cover the lock for securing the sportrack to the bike. Is this the case?

I suppose that is true. If you take a look at the pictures, you can see the lock towards the rear, on the rack. I did not realize that was the case at first. If you cover up the key slot, there would be no way to get it on and off haha. Many of the Sportracks do not have this design, but the S1KR has to have it this way due to the design of the seat mechanism.
