Warning light and Engine appearing on dash
« on: September 30, 2017, 09:15:06 AM »
A couple of things before I get into it. 2017 with all the extras, bike has 6600kms on it, has had the akra Ti GP style slip on exhaust on it for about 3000kms, no fuel map changes as BMW said it wasn't necessary.

Out riding today in the hills surrounding Melbourne, stopped on the side of the road for a breather before I headed home for the day. Decided to film a video of the bike/exhaust starting and revving in neutral since it sounds so much better than stock. First vid was a waste since it was in detuned rain mode. Second attempt was in dynamic mode. When revving past 9000rpm the yellow warning lamp between the indicators came on solid and the dash displayed "ENGINE!" but would turn off below 9000rpm. Was easy to repeat at that time but went away.
Took off riding and the bike ran perfectly after hard riding on twisty roads and the fault didn't come up when at speed and revving with the clutch in or revving out 1st and 2nd gear. I pulled over after the bends to see if could repeat the issue at standstill which it did. Exactly as stated before.
Kept riding on home and again bike ran perfect. Tried to repeat the fault once home but couldn't get the fault up again.

Has anyone had any issues like this before with there S1KR?

Cheers

Harry

A very clever engineer at BMW may have programmed the idiot light to flash if someone decided to thrash an unloaded motor into the red zone whilst in neutral - its a good way to whack out your motor !

I have to agree, that is really hard on your engine. No load and the con rod bearings are being trashed. Relax and enjoy your new slip on.

I have exactly the same problem. Once I rev past 9k rmp, the light comes on. Once I go down the rmp, the goes off.

Happened once, I was testing a new exhaust... I think I got carried away and gave too much throttle while the engine was cold around 40/50 degrees on the dash :190:

I haven't tried while fully warmed up. I'd try it and give a feedback. Is this a norm or it has to do with some settings though

Thrashing your bike in neutral is quite probably the worst thing you could ever do to it ! Lasting damage quite possible ! Chillax !
