I just dug up my other thread so that I could post pics, as I just picked my Racer up today.  I really enjoy Cal Moto, most of his reviews have been spot-on to what I've experienced on the various bikes he's reviewed.

Just an FYI Cal Moto is a dealership with a location in Moutain Veiw California and in Livermore California.

They also got one at my local dealer but they have it in the back and are modding it.  Exhaust and they are making a new triple clamp and some other stuff to make look like a bike they raced at the Salt Flats.  They are also putting a 1300 cc big bore kit on it.

It is still a work In progress.

I think they look cool but the techs don't like them.

Also the guys at my dealer are not very excited about it. Maybe they see few sales due to niche bike and not so comfy seating position.

For BMW it is a mega business! It is a 9T pure with nice paint scheme and the parts you can see, nothing more.
Wonder if it would not be better to get a pure then take it to the shop of your preference and do the same with the parts you really want.
Still have to congratulate BMW for putting it on the market.

I really like the aesthetics, but wish that BMW had up-spec'ed it rather than dumbed it down from the standard 9T.

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus.  But, I can see BMW's attempt to make the bikes more available.  As I ride it though, I'm not sure I would have paid much more for a tarted-up model.  Given the engine performance, the brakes are sufficient and the suspension seems OK.  To up-spec those would have put it at a price point that probably wouldn't have interested me, anyway.

I'm seeing many R9T owners dump a lot of money into performance enhancements and try to turn that bike into a track-capable bike, etc.  It doesn't make sense to me.  For the same price, the S1000R trounces it in performance in every conceivable way.  This bike is all about vibey, oil-smelling, 70's tube socks nostalgia.  Besides, the seating position is going to turn off most of the old-farts that could actually afford an up-spec'd version.  :001:

Probably going to get flamed and I may be in the minority but I don't think it looks that good.  Every time i see it i think it looks out of proportion the front fairing is too big and the tail hump too short I prefer the standard R9T with all the goodies.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, andynj, even if it's wrong.  :007:

Just kidding!  :008:  Actually, I do agree with you about the proportions.  I wish they would have made the fairing more like the Roland Sands prototype.

I also wish they would have made the hump a little bigger, too.  It would look better, and since it's a storage cubby, I might then be able to fit a non-smushed sandwich in there.
