USB charger, what to choose?
« on: March 06, 2017, 12:14:55 PM »
Hello guys! It will be a post of acquaintance and question.
Last year my wife gave me my S1000R, it was a gift of my birthday. It was the end of season and i rode only 3500km. In May i will go to Georgia with my friends.
I have a question: is there some OEM solution to plug USB charging to s1000r? Or not OEM but looking good and without lost of warranty.
say, if you have some suggestion or ideas how to increase comfortability of S1000R for traveling.

And sry for my terrible English.:-)

For powering accessories, theres the OA connector behind the clutch-side fairing (youll need an adapter), but Im using that to power a Navigator V. My dealership installs a fused Powerlet plug on all its bikes. On mine they added it to the frame below the fuel tank, on the throttle side. To power an iPhone with this connector, Ive had good luck with a compact USB adapter from Wunderlich America:

This USB charger adapter is made specifically for the typical BMW power outlet (DIN sockets) and it allows easy connection of your USB cable for charging your phone, etc. Converts 12V input to the USB standard 5V output with max. 2000mA. The special feature of this accessory is the compact 90 degree angled shape. This allows a very slick connection with minimal protrusion.

I'd opt for a 12v car charger port.

Then plug in a usb car charger

Unless you're using a mobile from a decade ago

Because right now charge technology has reached Quick Charge 3.0
That's up to 18 watts of charge

I've not found a direct usb charger that is more than 5 watts (5v * 1Amp)

5 watts vs 18 watts is a huge difference

What devices do you intend on charging?
I can look up what wattage they require.

I used the BMW pigtail in the 12V plug to a Burnsmoto weather proof USB port.

Where is the place of connection on the s1000r for this connector?
