Stock LED turn signals
« on: April 29, 2014, 08:57:48 PM »
I was under the impression that the turn signals were LED, however, I noticed that mine were normal bulbs....

I vaguely remember that some markets don't get the LED's on the base bike, but i figured they would be on a loaded US bike. Did I misread something or did someone make a mistake somewhere?

A loaded as you put it should have led's. By that I assume you mean the RS version

From what I've noticed, the US bikes don't get the LED indicators. I'm just guessing, but I bet the LED indicators aren't DOT approved.

So you can send a man to the moon but can't decide if LED's conform to safety standards.

Yep, for some reason the US bikes do not get the LED turn signals.

I bought the OEM LEDs from A&S BMW. $208 including mounting kit. Should arrive in about a week (back order).
Why is common sense so uncommon?

$208  :005: No thanks. I'll look into just replacing the bulbs or maybe getting some flush mounts.

I got the LED's from my dealer when I picked up the bike. It makes it look so much nicer that it's worth the money to me.

the front LEDs are plug & play.  The rear requires you to cut into the wiring harness (not a big deal) if you don't want to by the harness.  No reprogramming required.
- K1600GT (for the Ride)
- S1000R (for the Twisties)
- R1200GSW (for Everything)
- Monster 1100 EVO (for the Town)
- CBR600RA (for the Track), TC449 (for the SM Track) & KTM 350 EXC-F (for the Dirt)

If you don't want to drop the coin for the OEM LEDs there is an option I might have considered had I seen it first.

There was a guy at the Rockstore Sunday on a red S1R. He mounted the RR incandecent rear turn signals up front. Identical style as stock but really short stalks. Looked good.
