LED kit that works in high beam housing
« on: May 21, 2015, 02:25:24 AM »
Hi, I'm new here.  I read Miles' thread about lighting, in which he states that he didn't have great luck with the LED bulb he purchased for the high beam.  I noticed that the bulb Miles didn't have great luck with (light output was poor) had the LEDs sunk into the stem (concave), for lack of better words.  I really wanted to go with LEDs for both high and low, as I didn't want to deal with the HID warm-up, and sourcing space for the ballasts.  I took a chance on an LED, actually got both high and low beam bulbs, that had the opposite design of what Miles had tried; the LEDs on the stem of each bulb are convex.  Anywho, it works great!!!  You can buy the bulbs on Amazon, but I found that you can buy individual bulbs (split sets) on ebay.

Here are the exact auctions I bought:
H7 for low beam:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/141652871732
9005 for high beam:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/111658358201

I also bought these bulbs for the parking and license plate lights:  http://amzn.com/B00P2D3VZG  Note:  These bulbs care about polarity!  Test before buttoning everything up.  If they don't work, take them out and spin them 180 degrees in the socket.

When it gets a bit darker, I'll take a shot of the beams and post them up.  Unfortunately, I don't have any photos with the OEM bulbs.

Good news! I'm glad the bulbs you found worked.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics.

Photos, as promised.  Not ideal environment for light testing, but will hopefully help show the brightness.  No photos were adjusted (although, I did blank out the license plate):

That is much, much better than the LED I tried in the high beam... It cast about as much light as the parking light did.

Impressive.
Looks that has no match in lighting. Looking at the bulbs it seems that the original cover on the low had to be drilled to make space for the cooling fan right?

Also seems you have your low beam too straight might be good for you but for others?

The low beam dust cover is removed completely.  I will just need to take care, and not spray water into the housing when washing the bike.  As for low beam being too straight, you may be right, as I have not messed with the adjustments at all since purchase.  I'll look into it if I start getting oncoming flashes.

Have you had any issues yet with the dust cover off? I just bought the same bulb was thinking of drilling a hole the exact size of the bulb so it can slide through it perfectly.
