200/55 Rear Tire?
« on: April 18, 2015, 09:11:15 AM »
Hey guys,

Has any ran a 200/55 Rear tire on their S1KR yet? I've got a deal on a set of tires(120/70 & 200/55), and I'm wondering whether to get them or not. I was told that the bike will feel "heavier", but with so much power, I doubt I'll feel the difference.

Personally - I wouldn't do it.
The bigger width tyre will be made even more pointy shaped instead of round due to being fitted to a narrower wheel.
I cannot give any guarantee with regard to the accuracy, completeness or suitability of any comments I make here :D

In short,

You can do it but it will f@ck up your DTC since the tyres have diff diameter....200/55 is bigger/taller tyre...

I wanted to do it as well, because I wanted the pointier result that ngallan mentioned ;)

The 200 will slow the turn in, or require more effort. IMHO I would stick with the 190.
A track day friend put a 190 (180 stock) on his z636 and he had a great deal of problems; Primarily slow turn in, way too much effort. He finally bought a 180 from the TD tire people and viola!..Back to a good handling z636.

Are these street tires?  A lot of race tires don't come in a 190 any more- it's 180 or 200.

I've run a few pairs of 200 series tires on the track, and I can't say that the slight negatives outweigh the increase in contact patch.

The 190 was a slightly used Dunlop race tire, don't recall the model? But he didn't last two sessions on it (good Level II rider) before he opted to change it.
PM sent.

Got a 200/55 Q4. Thinking whether to run it on the R or RR. Any suggestions?

Curious, did you ever run that 200/55/R17 tire?  Im curious about the feedback and was it used for track or street.
