S1000R to S1000RR Conversion (Fairings, Headlight, Clip ons)

    Hello everyone,

I have bought a 2015 S1000R not long ago, and I would love to convert it to an S1000RR. I have done quite an extensive research, and before doing it, I would love to get some opinions on the feasibility and compatibility for my project. The reason for not just getting an S1000RR instead of doing this project is simple: I don’t have the money for it. The province where I live in Canada, Quebec, classifies supersport bikes as high risk vehicles, and an additional 1100$ CAD of registration fees must be paid every year (I know, it sucks). Also, I like customizing my bikes.

So here’s what I am planning to buy, and feel free to comment.

The parts I will be purchasing will mostly come from aftermarket, chinese suppliers like eBay or Aliexpress.

    Parts:
    • S1000RR 2015/2016/2017 Fairings kit from Aliexpress: it includes windshield, bolts, all fairings, with side panel, radiator air duct, headlight fairings and front air inlet duct. From my research, I found that the R frame before 2016 is the same as the 2010-2014 RR frame. I verified compatibility from BMW parts for the side fairings for the 2015 RR and it fits the 2014 RR. So I would assume the RR side fairings will fit the 2015 R frame. 2015 RR rear, tank, side trims are the same for the 2015 R. I know chinese fairings might have some drilling and adjustments for the right fit.
    • S1000 RR cooling expansion tank
    • S1000 RR 2015-2018 headlight.
    • S1000 RR 2009-2019 Front panel carrier/headlight bracket in order to fit the headlight. I will need to drill 4 holes at the frame such as here [https://www.s1000r.co.uk/index.php/topic,3152.10.html][/url]
    • S1000RR 55mm clip ons compatible such as here https://www.s1000r.co.uk/index.php?topic=5500.0
    • Eventually I would change the rearsets and the top triple clamp too. Also mirrors.

Any comments, concerns or opinion for this?

    Thank you!

Actually I think the 2010-2014 side fairings and front headlight fairings would fit better. But I am not sure anymore.

The stars align and an ad just came up on Facebook Marketplace, someone who actually did an s1000r to s1000rr conversion! Looks like 2010-2014 fairings. I asked the guy about it but said he bought it like that. Here are the photos.

I don't get the point. Why not sell the R and buy a RR? You'll have more power and far less hassle. Possibly even save money.

He spelled out the reason- registration taxes and insurance. The RR is a very highly taxed super sport, but the R is much more lightly taxed standard. This is reflected in the taxes, too, so basically what he would love most of all is a frame-swapped bike- an RR with an R frame number.

That way he gets the performance, but not the financial penalty.

I think you mean the cosmetic appearance.
Each to their own, I think it is safe to say alot of people love modding the appearance of their bikes.
