The manual seems to indicate you should only use BMWs own charger if you're to leave it connected.  Is it Ok to use other models?  I've a CTEK XS 0.8 that I've always used and have hooked up the quick connect lead to the battery in preparation.

Iíve used an Oxford and tender cable for the past 3 years with no issues.

:763:I've plugged mine in.  It's always been a habit on the previous bike to connect it as soon as I get back from a ride as I don't know when I'm next going to be out.  Also as this bike is new to me I keep turning the bike on to mess around in the menus and get familiar with everything.

as long as your smart charger supports the type of battery installed , then YES
    I use a CTEK MX5 and detachable connector on my 2017 Gen2
