Rear axle lubricant
on: July 17, 2021, 12:25:36 PM
Just taken off the rear wheel for the first time to change the tyre. Could I have some advice what kind of grease/lubricant shall I rub/spray it on the rear axle before reassembling the wheel please?

Iíve just always used general grease, itís only to stop it seizing, copper slip will also do the job

Copper anti-seize would work, but you'll never get your hands clean again.

Just use whatever grease you have handy. I use white lithium grease.

I'd never apply Copper slip anywhere near rubber seals.it swells up rubber over a period of time.

If your bike is still under warranty, only use the BMW's own approved grease.

Keep on top of that rear axle so that you donít end up with a sticky problem like I didÖ

If youíre feeling anal about it (like I was at the time), you can get the Ďofficialí Optimol TA anti-seize paste from motobins.co.uk - though it isnít cheap.

That's pretty anal, I have four tins of it.  :008: UK drug agents opened the shipment to USA to see what the f... was in them. Just about anything will work, spray lithium grease, axle or bearing grease. Just not dry. Good on you for working on your bike.
